Bike size is determined according to height. More specifically, bike size is determined by inseam length. And different age groups need different size bikes. In addition, the measuring process of different ages bikes are also different such as adults’, male or female bikes size and kid’s bike size is totally different.

Today I want to talk about the 23-inch bike for suitable persons, which is an adult bike for taller people. Also, in this article, I will discuss in detail the 23-inch bike ideal for each size person. Thus to know more about 23-inch bikes read the whole article carefully.

What Does It Mean By 23-Inch Bike Actually?

A 23-inch bike is a bicycle that frames 23 inches. It can be any kind of bike such that a road bike, cruiser bike, Hybrid bike, MTB, Gravel, Touring, Trek cycle, etc. But their frame will be 23 inches.

Kids’ bikes are measured based on tire size but adults’ bikes are measured according to their frame size. And, the distance from the seat tube to the crank is called frame size.

  • If the distance from the crank center to the top seat tube is 23 inches then it is called a 23-inch bike.

How To Determine A Bicycle’s Size?

A bicycle’s size is determined based on the cyclist’s height and age. But if you determine the size of the cycle according to age, it is more precise. That’s why I prefer you to determine a bicycle size according to a cyclist’s height rather than age.

There are different methods of measuring bicycle size.

  1. Mathematical method.
  2. General bicycle frame size chart.
  3. Advance bicycle frame size chart.

1. Mathematical method:

In the mathematical method, we have multiple inseam lengths with different numbers which are determined for different types of bikes. See the following table:

 Bicycle Type           Measurement
Road bicycle inseam×0.70
Mountain bicycle inseam × 0.66
Hybrid bicycle/ City Bike/ Cruiser bicycle inseam × 0.665
Trekking bicycle inseam×0.64

Now you may be curious about Intake.  Mightn’t you? Well, let’s discover this in the next part.

What is an Inseam?

The inseam is the distance between the crotch and the foot.

And, How To Measure The Inseam Length?

You can measure your inseam length by following these steps.

  • At first, take off your shoes and stand on the floor.
  • Now, hold a hardcover book against the wall with the crotch between the two legs.
  • Take tape and measure from the top of the spine to the floor. Keep the tape straight at the time of measuring the inseam.

1. Applying Mathematical Method:

Now, multiply the inseam value that you have found, by the constant value.  Then, the figure you will obtain will be the perfect frame size for you. Suppose, you want to buy a road bike and your inseam length is 85.

  • Now multiply 85 with the determination value 0.70 for the road bike. 85× 0.70= 59.5 cm.
  • You have to keep in mind that the mathematical method is performed in cm.
  • After that convert cm into inches. Here, 59.5 cm is approximately 23 inches.

In this way, you can find out a suitable bike size for you. If the mathematical method seems complicated to you, you can follow the General bicycle frame chart.

2. General Bicycle Frame Size Chart:

A general bicycle frame size chart means a bike of a specific size is prescribed for the height of a specific range. Take a look at the chart below to understand the matter properly.

Cyclist Height Frame Size
4’11”-5’3” 13”-15”
5’3”-5’7” 15”-16”
5’7”-5’11”  16”-17”
5’11”-6’2” 17”-19”
6’2”-6’4” 19”-21”
6’4”+ 21”+

If your height matches the height prescribed in the chart, then the bike prescribed for that height is fit for you. But This is not quite correct as different types of bicycles have different sizes.

For example, a road bike is larger in size and a mountain bike is smaller in size.

  • Let’s give you a clearer idea, a 5-inch-tall cyclist needs a 13-inch mountain bike frame.
  • On the contrary, the same 5 inches person required 18 inches city bike frame.

So, it is clear that the general bicycle frame size chart can’t provide you with an appropriate size of bike.

But what should you do if the general bicycle frame size chart is failed?

  • If the general bicycle frame size chart is failed, you should apply the advanced bicycle frame size chart method. Because in this method, you will get your desired types of bikes according to your height.

3. Advance bicycle frame size chart:

In the advanced frame size method, we find your desired bike size according to your height. Because we know that different bike has different size.

  • City Cycle: City bike is also known as a utility bike. It is used in city areas, basically, for transportation purposes. Also, it is designed to allow cyclists to sit upright and comes in different sizes. Moreover, it is comparatively bigger. So, people of all ages can ride a city bike.

  • Mountain Bike: Mountain bike or MTB is typically an off-road bike. So its structure is very strong. Because it rides off-road and has to endure various shocks. But mountain bikes’ structure is smaller than commuter bikes.

  • Folding Bike: Folding bike is a bicycle that can be easily folded. As its frame size is Universal, its size is not determined by height like other common bikes. And, the size of the folding bike is determined by the wheel size.
  • 16-inch, 20-inches, 24-inches, 26-inch, 27-inch,27.5-inch, 29-inch, and 32-inch are different sizes of its wheel.

23-Inch Bike For What Size Person?

Generally, a 23-inch bike is for a taller person. And, a 23-inch bicycle size indicates the frame size of a bicycle.  And, now we can say by analyzing different bike size charts that-

  • Those people who are more than 6 inches or around 6 inches can ride a 23-inch bike.

Bike frame sizes are usually 13 to 24 inches and 23-inch bikes are actually the top size.  Therefore, it is most suitable for taller people.

But can’t short people ride a 23-inch bike?

From a general point of view, we can say that short people can’t ride 23-inch bikes. But if anyone is short or less than 6” but expert in cycling and feels comfortable in a 23-inch bike, then he/she can ride a 23-inch bike.

You can’t fix it that these particular people can ride a 23-inch bike or these people can’t. So we can only speak of a general limit. But people of lower height can also ride it as it’s totally depended on that particular person’s ability.

Can women ride 23-inch bikes?

Women’s physical structure is different from men’s. Usually, females are shorter than males. That’s why women’s bikes are also shorter than men’s bikes. But nowadays all bikes are unisex which means the same size man and a woman can ride a similar-sized bike.

Furthermore, we hardly see 6″ or over 6-inches girls. That’s why we think a lady can’t ride a 23-inch bike. As all bikes are unisex, so women can ride man’s bikes. So, if a girl is 6 inches, she can ride a 23-inch bike.

The Last Lines About 23 Inches Bicycle For Suitable One

At the end, there is not much to say but a few to wrap up my sayings. As the 23-inch bicycle is a bigger size, typically, it is suitable for taller people. Thus people around 6-inch can ride this bicycle. But females also can ride this bicycle if they are 6-inch tall.

Finally, remember the valuable tips- before buying a 23-inch bike, I recommend to trail first as it is comfortable for you or not. And, if all is set well and fit perfectly, then it’s good to purchase. Be A Perfect Peddler, Dude. Good Luck!
